I have posted a few times in the past, but I usually only read the threads rather than get involved in the discussions. I find myself in need of some advice/assistance and I knew that this would be the place to get both.

I am a relatively new examiner with a little over three years experience and about 450 tests conducted. I am a law enforcement examiner in the Upstate area of South Carolina. I hve been granted permission from my Sheriff to pursue private polygraphs and I would like to get some help from you folks.

I know that I will have to stay away from any test that conflicts with any law enforcement matter, so I would like to get some input about what types of tests I should be preparing to do. Also, if anyone has can email me a copy of their Consent Forms and other paperwork specifically related to private sector testing I would be grateful for that as well. Since I am LE, I do not have a real strong grasp of EPPA, just enough to know that I want to avoid getting near it.

If anyone can help with one or more of my requests, I will check the bulletin board or you can email me at dmorgan@spartanburgcounty.org or you can call me at 864-596-3746.

Thanks in advance.

Danny,

It is my understanding that the bulk of the current polygraph uses are conflicts of interest for law enforcement to do privately.

If you have not yet done so, you might want to go through the Marin Protocol certification process. Once certified, you can be put on a list of examiners to use polygraph in specific issue testing for civil litigation. This could prove to be a lucrative supplement (not sure how often it is being used yet) and, since it is civil, not a conflict of interest.

Thanks for the reply. I have been certified through the Marin Protocol. That was last year, but I have not conducted any testing through that.

I an expecting that most of the testing I will be able to do will be related to marital/fidelity issues. I may pursue contacting some of the businesses that are allowed to do pre-employment testing under EPPA such as armored car services, controlled substances/pharmaceutical distribitors, etc. I may also be able to do something related to Workers Comp. and Insurance cases.

I am hoping to get some advice from other LE examiners who do private tests as well as private examiners who do tests in the above mentioned areas. I am not looking to make a living doing the private tests, just enough to supplement my income. There are very few private examiners in my general area. There is only one in my county and he just does some tests part-time. There is one other that I know of in Greenville Co. The Upstate is a fairly large area and there are very few examiners, private or LE, in this area.

Thanks again for your reply and advice about MP.

Danny

Hello Danny,
Good luck on this venture. Let me know how it works out. I've been considering the same thing. I see some, but not a lot of, trouble with the civil side.
Give me a call,
Tommy
